Cats win battle with Hounds

The Refugio Bobcat Baseball team hosted their first district game Tuesday night against the Taft Greyhounds. The highly contested battle featured numerous big hits and several great defensive plays to give the Bobcats a 11-8 win.

Jourdan Ortiz pitched 6sixinnings for the Cats and improved his record to 3-1 for the year.

Derrick Silvas came in to finish the game in the seventh inning.

“At the plate several players had huge nights,” said Coach Armando Huerta.

Jacob Garcia was 4-4 with two doubles, 3 RBI, and two runs. Cristian Espindola was 3-4 with a huge three run double and three runs. Alex Ochoa was 2-3 with a double as well.

Josh Pena, Aaron Perez, Kyle Hendley, Jourdan Ortiz, Jared Sternadel, and Irvin Fox all contributed hits for the Bobcats.

Current record is now 11-5-1 on the season and 1-2 in district play.

Standings are Odem 3-0, Bloomington 2-1, Banquete 2-1, Refugio 1-2, Taft 1-2, and Skidmore 0-3.

Next game is Friday, April 3, at Skidmore-Tynan.
