CORPUS CHRISTI - The Texas Department of Transportation Corpus Christi District is scheduled to begin a $12.5 million preventative maintenance project Monday (May 6) to improve the safety and integrity of almost 230 miles of roadway in nine Coastal Bend counties.

The work is a seal coat project, which involves applying a mixture of asphalt and small aggregate to recondition, preserve and waterproof the road surface and to improve skid resistance. The project is expected to be completed in about 10 weeks, weather permitting.

The work schedule is subject to weather, material supply and equipment breakdown, but it will follow this general timeline:

May – Refugio, Goliad, Karnes, Bee and Live Oak counties

June – Jim Wells County

July – Aransas, Nueces and San Patricio counties

There will be single lane closures in the work zone and motorists are urged to slow down and observe all warning signs and flaggers.
