Workmen from CenterPoint Energy rush to stop a large gas leak just before noon Monday in the 1300 block of West Corpus Christi Street. A utility truck owned by T&D Solutions of Corpus Christi was boring a hole in the ground at that location when the auger bit struck the gas line, causing the leak at about 11:09 a.m. The replacement pole is lying on the ground. Seven officers from the Beeville Police Department joined 10 firefighters from the Beeville Volunteer Fire Department to block off traffic throughout the general area. Eventually, American Electric Power workmen shut off power to a significant number of areas in the neighborhood to prevent a spark that could have ignited the leaking gas. It took workmen until almost 2 p.m. to stop the leak and resume electric power to the neighborhoods.
