JV Bobcats slam Odem Owls

The Junior Varsity Bobcats traveled to Skidmore and defeated the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats 13-2 on April 3.

Refugio jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with scores by Logan Koonce, Josh Villarreal, Charlie Henderson, and Jared Contreras. Refugio added two more runs in the second inning from both Koonce and Villarreal to make it 6-0 Refugio.

Refugio added four runs in the third inning behind Paul Boyer, Jaime Flores, Ruben Ramirez, and Koonce for a 10-0 lead. Marquise Brown added a run in the top of the fourth inning to make it 11-0.

Skidmore-Tynan scored its first run in the bottom of the fourth inning, making the score 11-1. Refugio would score two more runs in the top of the fifth inning behind Dante Leal and a double by Jonathan Medina who would score on the same play after an error byS-T, making the score 13-1 Refugio.

Skidmore managed one more run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the final score, Refugio 13 Skidmore-Tynan 2.

Koonce picked up the victory on the mound striking out six batters, for his fourth victory of the season making his record 4-0.

Leading batters for the Bobcats were Koonce 4-4 with 3 runs, Leal 1-1 with 1 run, Henderson 3-3 with 2 runs, Medina 1-1 with 1 run, and Rudy Solis 2-3.

The JV Bobcats record is now 8-4-2 on the season. Their next game will be tonight (Thursday, March 9) against Banquete.

The Junior Varsity Bobcats opened up district play on March 27 in Odem with an unshakable 11-5 win over the Owls.

The Bobcats took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning of play behind Villarreal, Henderson, Solis, and Koonce.

In the second inning the Bobcats were on the prowl once again as they scored four runs behind Boyer, Brown, Solis, and Koonce to take a 8-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third the Owls scored to make it 8-1 Refugio. In the fifth inning, the Bobcats scored on runs from Flores, Contreras and Boyer to make it 11-1.

The Owls tried to make a comeback in the fifth, scoring four runs to make it 11-5.

The Owls would score 2 more runs in the bottom of the sixth, making the final score 11-7 .

Winning pitcher Brown recorded eight strikeouts, making his record 1-0 on the season.

Leading batters for Refugio were Henderson 1-2 with 1 run, Solis 2-2 with 2 runs, Flores 1-2 with 1 run, Koonce 2-2 with 2 runs, Contreras 2-2 with 1 run, and Boyer 1-2 with 2 runs scored.
