Incumbent Ruben Garcia announced his candidacy for Place 2 on the Refugio City Council. He released the following statement this week:

“I have been honored to serve as alderman for several terms and would like to continue to work for the citizens of the Town of Refugio.

During the last two terms, I have worked to increase investment in our city’s future. Through tax abatements and incentives, the city council has reached out to potential businesses and new residents - as well as existing businesses and homeowners.

All the while, never losing focus on the city’s financial obligations to the taxpayers. Even though the city has faced some challenges with the budget due to economic times, I, along with the council, have worked to control spending without sacrificing the quality of city services to the residents of the town of Refugio.

I have supported the investment in infrastructure to improve water and sewer services as well.

Moving forward, I would like to continue concentrating on improving the quality of life for our residents by supporting the effort of the Community Development Foundation, efforts to improve the beautification of our city, addressing the housing shortage and supporting training and development programs to improve the quality of our workforce.

My commitment to community service began when I moved my family to Refugio County 30 years ago. My wish is to continue to make this the best place to raise a family.

My promise to the citizens of Refugio is that I will continue to work hard every day to ensure that the next generation will be grateful to have raised their family here as well.
