Refugio sends Bloomington home after five innings

Last Tuesday night, April 7, the Refugio Bobcat baseball team hosted the Bloomington Bobcats in a critical District 30-2A battle.

Bloomington came in with a 3-1 district record in second place behind undefeated Odem. Refugio was 2-2 and in a tie for third place with Banquete.

Jourdan Ortiz quickly set the tone for the night by striking out two of the first three batters. He continued his dominating performance through out the night, holding Bloomington to only two hits and one run.

Ortiz is now (4-1) for the year. At the plate the Refugio Bobcats were just as impressive scoring 11 runs on 14 hits, sending the visiting Bobcats home early after five innings of play.

Aaron Perez led the charge by going 3-3 with 3 RBIs, a triple, and 2 runs. Christian Espindola followed suit with a 2-2 performance that featured a walk, an RBI, and 2 runs.

Irvin Fox also had a huge night going 2-3 with a crushing RBI triple while also scoring two runs Josh Pena and Jacob Garcia each added two hits for the Cats.

Alex Ochoa, Kyle Hendley, and Ortiz each added a hit to the final tally.

With the win the Bobcats are now tied for second place with Bloomington at (3-2). Odem is in sole possession of first at (5-0)… Taft and Banquete are both in fourth with a record of (2-3) followed by winless Skidmore (0-5).

Following last Tuesday’s game, the Refugio Bobcats are 13-5-1
