Woodsboro High School power-house lifters Chelsea Simpson and Samantha Lopez competed at the USA Powerlifting High School Nationals on April 3 in Killeen.

Lopez completed a total lift of 749 pounds, which was good enough to earn her a sixth place finish.

The sixth place finish was due to the bench and dead lift competition. She completed a 154 lb bench and a 314 dead lift.

Simpson struggled through her squat but was still able to complete a 115-pound bench, which is a personal best for her at the 114 pound weight division.

However, Simpson was not able to earn a place due to her squat.

“While this was a great experience for the girls, we are hoping that they will stick with the sport of powerlifting and continue to grow as athletes, said Coach Jerry Howell. “Both girls are improving so much and we hope to bring Samantha back here next year and hopefully be in that top three.”
