Eagles tennis players shine at recent tourneys

Josh Jones took third in singles at the Orange Grove tennis tournament on Thursday and Friday, April 2 and 3.

Other Woodsboro athletes who participated include Michael Garcia and R.J. Cisneros who won their first-round match. In the junior varsity division, Kasie Fierova won her first-round match.

Woodsboro competed in the Refugio Tennis Tournament as well. In the junior varsity division, Fierova captured third in girls singles. Eddie Barnett and J.R. Gonzales saw action in boys singles.

In the varsity division, Montana Williams and Dillan Blaker won the mixed doubles, and Josh Jones and Michael Garcia won the boys doubles. David Muro played well in boys singles.

“The kids played hard,” said Coach Keith Williams. “We got a lot of good out of the two days.”

Woodsboro competed in the District Tennis Tournament April 6 and 7, in Alice. In the JV division, Fierova won the girls singles and Gonzales took second in the boys singles.

In the varsity division, Jones and Zach Salinas won the boys doubles and R.J. Cisneros and Michael Garcia took second. Montana Williams and Dillan Blaker took second in mixed doubles. Also competing for Woodsboro were Muro and Barnett. The boys won the district team title.

The doubles team will compete at the regional tournament next Wednesday and Thursday, April 22 and 23, in College Station.

“Their effort is good and we’ll continue to work,” Williams said.
