In their highest scoring playoff game in history, the Bobcats took control of things quickly and defeated the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs, 82-26.

The ’Cats exploded onto the scoreboard with three scores in less than nine minutes of play. First to hit pay dirt was Tyler Castellano with a 52-yard scamper into the end zone.

Two minutes later, Marquis Brown copied the feat from 51 yards out to give the ’Cats a 13-0 lead. Castellano scored again on a 1-yard TD reception with just over three minutes left in the first period.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Mustangs scored their first touchdown making the score 19-7. The Bobcats answered back instantly with Travis Quintanilla engineering a scoring drive that only lasted 31 seconds. Quintanilla capped off the drive with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Devon LaFrance.

The Bobcats scoring machine kept rolling in the second quarter. Quintanilla hooked up with Dana Franklin on a 12-yard touchdown pass to extend the Bobcats’ lead, 33-7. The Bobcat defense recorded the next score with Cameron Loveday snagging a Mustang pass and returning it for an 82-yard score.

Quintanilla threw a pair of touchdown passes next.

Another 12-yard TD pass to Dana Franklin then a 15-yard strike to Devon LaFrance put the Bobcats ahead by a score of 54-7.

The Mustangs scored their second touchdown of the night, but the Bobcats were quick to retaliate. With 24 seconds left in the first half, Isaiah Perez returned a kick for a 71-yard score to make it 61-14 at halftime.

Quintanilla threw for three touchdowns in the third period. First, a 25-yard pass to Anfernee Friar then a 6-yard toss to JB Brown and an 11-yard scoring pass to Johnathan Rosas rounded out the Bobcat’s scoring for the night.

The Mustangs scored twice more, but it was not enough to stave off a Bobcat victory by the tune of 82-26.

Quintanilla completed 22 of 24 passes and eight touchdowns on the night.

Isaiah Perez led the rushing charge with five rushes for 58 yards. Dana Franklin had the receiving yards with three catches for 72 yards.

The Bobcats travel to El Campo this Friday night to face the Danbury Panthers for the Area Championship. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Ricebird Stadium.
