REFUGIO – On Friday, Jan. 17, the Bobcats hosted the Palacios Sharks in a district contest.

The Bobcats started out strong and took a 16-9 first quarter lead. However, a sluggish second and third quarter found the Bobcats trailing 34-31 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter would prove to be an exciting one as both teams battled back and forth in an attempt to take control. In the final minute of the game, the Cats were down 47-45.

The Bobcats missed an opportunity to tie the game and were forced to foul.

Palacios was in the bonus and was awarded two free throws.

Refugio caught a break as both free throws were missed giving the Bobcats one last chance.

With less than 10 seconds left in the game, the Cats would inbound the ball to point guard Tyler Castellano who would drive hard to his right coming of two screens from Travis Quintanilla and James Durst.

The Shark defense was able to contain Tyler but left Travis wide open at the top of the key.

Tyler was able to kick it out and Travis Quintanilla hit the game winning three point shot.

Scoring for Refugio were Anfernee Friar 22, Travis Quintanilla 10, Tyler Castellano six, Devon LaFrance five, Jonathan Rosas three and James Durst two.

The Refugio boy’s basketball team traveled to Tidehaven on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

The Bobcats could not get into the groove of things as they ended the first quarter down 13-12.

The second quarter would end up being a difference maker as the Cats would only score five points and go into halftime down 27-17.

Several Bobcats got into foul trouble early and three of them would eventually foul out of the game.

The free throw line was also not friendly to the Cats as they would make four of 20 for the night.

In the end, the adversity was too much and Refugio would lose to Tidehaven 50-43.

Scoring for Refugio were Anfernee Friar 16, James Durst 13, Devon LaFrance seven, Travis Quintanilla four, Cole Van Ness two and Tyler Castellano added one.
