“It was like something out of a movie,” was the way one member of the police department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team described the incident to Police Chief Joe Treviño later that morning.
Treviño said what was happening was drug raids on two residences.
The raids were led by Texas Department of Public Safety narcotics investigators and their own SWAT officers.
BPD SWAT officers were asked to assist in the raids.
The chief said police officers in full SWAT gear descended on two homes. One was in the 800 block of West Youst Street and the other was in the 900 block of West Jones Street. All the while, the DPS helicopter hovered overhead with search lights blaring.
“Officers located a substantial amount of methamphetamine, some illegal prescription pills and some counterfeit money,” Treviño said.
Three suspects were arrested, including two women ages 43 and 22. One 24-year-old man was also arrested on a local warrant.
The chief said DPS troopers had state warrants to search the homes and make arrests.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, state investigators were not releasing any of the suspects’ names.
More information is expected to be made available later.
