Bobcats fall to Aransas Pass, Goliad Tigers

REFUGIO – The Bobcats hosted the no. 11 team in the state on Friday Jan. 31 as Aransas Pass came to town.

The Cats got off to a slow start as the first quarter ended down 9-23.

The boys fought hard the second quarter and cut into the lead as they went into halftime down 32-26.

The third quarter was another slow one by the Cats as they were outscored 19-8.

These two slow starts proved to be the difference in the game as the Bobcats fell short 74-50.

Scoring for Refugio: Anfernee Friar 17, James Durst 12, Tyler Castellano 7, Cole Van Ness 6, Travis Quintanilla 5, Darrin DeLeon 2. On Tuesday, Jan. 28, the Varsity boys traveled to Goliad to take on the Tigers in a district basketball game.

The Bobcats played hard as they kept it close. Refugio ended the third quarter tied at 38.

In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats found themselves in a little foul trouble and allowed the Tigers to get to the free throw line.

However, a couple of missed opportunities by the Tigers allowed the Bobcats to stay in it. The Cats had one last opportunity down 54-52.

With just under 10 seconds, Refugio Bobcat Friar took the kick out from Tyler Castellano looking the hit a game winner.

Good defense by the Tigers forced Friar to pull it down and drive to the basket where he found a good look but the ball just would not fall.

The Cats fell 54-52. Scoring for the Cats: Frair 15, Durst 14, Quintanilla 12, Deleon 4, Castellano 4, Devon LaFrance 2, Robert Frazier 2.
