Woodsboro bar sees rash of assaults

WOODSBORO – Terrence O’Neal Brown of Refugio, Jose David Barrientes of Woodsboro, and Willie Jay Henderson of Victoria, were arrested Feb. 8 after a fight at Tha Place Bar, according to a Refugio Sheriff’s Office press release.

The fight, which took place Jan. 25, was investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit.

Brown, also know as “Red,” 42, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing bodily injury, felony second degree.

Warrants were also issued for Willie Jay Henderson III, 23, for aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, a second degree felony. Henderson is currently evading apprehension.

After the investigation, a parole warrant also was issued for Brown from the Texas Department of Parole in Austin. Both suspects were involved in an altercation with Jose David Barrientes, also know as “Joey.”

Barrientes, 33, was assaulted with beer bottles and taken to the Refugio Memorial Hospital emergency room for treatment. He received several lacerations to the facial area, requiring 18 stitches.

Barrientes was on probation, and stipulations and conditions of his probation included not being out after curfew and not being in a bar. He was arrested on Feb. 7.

In another assault incident, Joseph Christopher Mendez, 28, of Refugio, was arrested Feb. 8, at Tha Place Bar in Woodsboro. Mendez was charged with assault causing bodily injury Class A degree, following an investigation.

The investigation revealed that the suspect named was involved in an altercation with a white male who was assaulted with a sucker punch, causing the victim to fall and incur a laceration to the back of the head. The victim was transported to the Refugio County Memorial Hospital, and he received five staples to the back of the head.
