REFUGIO – Snappy Foods Inc. President Moe Motaghi on Monday said he was about a week away from closing a deal on the Shelton mansion at 809 S. Alamo St.

Snappy Foods Inc. owns the mansion, and about a month ago the company offered it free to someone who would incur the expense of moving it from the corner it sits on.

If no none took the offer, the house was to be torn down to make way for a Snappy Foods convenience store.

“But we finally found a home for that,” Motaghi said. “Next week, we will finalize it.”

Motaghi said the Shelton home will be moved within Refugio County, somewhere north of Bayside on waterfront property.

He said another 1907 house already there would be right next to the Shelton house, which has about 5,000 square feet in it.

Originally the Shelton house was a bungalow, built in 1912. The second floor was added in 1928.

It is not clear who built the bungalow.
