REFUGIO – At the conclusion of regular season play, the Refugio Bobcat baseball team found itself in a first place tie with the Edna Cowboys.

Both teams were 12-2 and both teams had a win over the other.

Edna won the first matchup 6-2 in Refugio, while the Bobcats captured the second matchup in Edna with a 7-2 score.

With the championship still undecided, both teams agreed to meet in Victoria on Saturday night to settle the score.

The night proved to be an intense matchup between two very good teams.

One Bobcat in particular, Tyler Castellano, seized the moment to display his baseball talents.

On the mound, Tyler pitched a complete game shutout.

He recorded 14 Ks and gave up no hits and no walks while facing the minimum 21 batters.

He was one defensive error away from a perfect game.

At the plate, Tyler was 3-4 with a 2B, 2-3Bs, a RBI, and a run score.

Travis Quintanilla was 3-4 at the plate with a RBI, SB, and run scored.

He also made a great backhand defensive play to keep the no-hitter in tact.

Cole VanNess and Shane Jochetz both had crucial RBIs in the game that extended the Bobcats’ insurmountable lead.

With the 5-0 win over the Cowboys, the Bobcats clinched their third consecutive district championship.

They are currently 18-6, 13-2, and face the Natalia Mustangs in a Bi-District Series this weekend.

Game one will be in Victoria, Friday at Riverside Stadium starting at 7 p.m.

Game two will be in San Antonio on Saturday, at Nelson Wolff Stadium, starting at 5.

Game three will follow game two, if necessary.
