Travis Quintanilla, 19, the quarterback who led the Refugio Bobcat football team to a state title in 2011 and other championships, winning numerous accolades, was arrested and charged with DWI on Monday evening, May 5, according to Refugio Police Chief Andy Lopez Jr.

Lopez said the arrest was made approximately at 11 p.m. Monday.

Other accounts of the incident indicate Quintanilla was doing doughnuts in the high school parking lot. “It’s factual,” Lopez said.

“He is an adult by law,” he added.

“We are processing the case and will get it to the appropriate prosecutor,” Lopez said. “In this case, it’s the county attorney. It will be submitted to him.

Lopez noted that the DWI is going to be filed as a misdemeanor offense.

In addition, Quintanilla was not allowed to finish the baseball season at Refugio High School.

A Facebook account shows Quintanilla apologizing and stating that he takes full responsibility for his actions.

Quintanilla recently signed to play football and baseball at Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
