WOODSBORO – Edgar Henry Blaschke Jr., 87, died Friday, May 9, at his home in Woodsboro surrounded by his family.

Mr. Blaschke was born Jan. 28, 1927, in Ingleside to Clover Inez (Huckman) and Edgar H. Blaschke Sr.

He attended schools in the Bayside-Richardson Community and graduated from Woodsboro in 1944.

He served in the US Army from 1945-1947 and was a veteran of the Korean War.

On Nov. 29, 1952, he married Doris Helen Dippel at St. Therese Catholic Church in Woodsboro by Father Gronotti.

He was employed by Rutherford Oil Corporation for 44 years retiring in 1995 from the operation located at the Bonnie View oil field near Woodsboro.

He later worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

He served 15 years on the Woodsboro ISD school board (1970-85) and volunteered countless hours supporting the Refugio County Fair Association and 4-H Adult Leaders Association helping to improve the junior livestock facilities for many generations of 4-H clubs (1964-80).

He also served in the Woodsboro Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years; daughter, Mary Kathryn Blaschke of Corpus Christi; seven sons, Robert (Jennie), Michael (Mary), Mark (Debra), John (Pam), James (Nelda), Joseph (Teresa) and Chris (Holly) Blaschke; brother, Andrew L. (Bernice) Blaschke of Taylor; sister, Virginia A. (Edward) Staples of Donaldson, Louisiana; 27 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Moore Funeral Home.

A rosary was recited at 7 o’clock that evening at St. Therese Catholic Church in Woodsboro.

The Sacrament of Christian Burial Mass, was celebrated there at 10 a.m. Monday, May 12.

Interment followed at LaRosa Cemetery, Churchill Road in Woodsboro with full military honors.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Robbie Blaschke, Coy Blaschke, Josh Blaschke, Tyler Blaschke, Luke Blaschke, Justin Kinslow, Cody Blaschke, Justin Blaschke, Steven Walleck, Jordan Blaschke, Nick Blaschke, Coby Sheffield and Gunnar Hall.
