High school football got underway a little more than a week ago with the start of two-a-days, one of the major “circle the date” highlights in the lead up to the start of the season.

The second highlight on that list is the first scrimmage.

All three county schools scrimmage for the first time this week.

On Friday, Beeville and Skidmore-Tynan hit the field. Pettus’ first scrimmage is Saturday.

Beeville plays host to George West on Friday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The freshmen squads will scrimmage at 6 p.m., the junior varsity teams will start at 7 p.m. and the varsity squads will hit the field around 8 p.m.

Skidmore-Tynan hosts its first scrimmage that same night at 6 o’clock against Riviera at Bobcat Stadium.

The junior varsity and varsity squads will alternate play during the Bobcats’ scrimmage.

Pettus kicks off its home scrimmage at 10 a.m. Saturday against visiting Cornerstone Christian at James V. Beauchamp Stadium.
