Folks, we officially have a nail-biter. As of right now, Team Gummy Shark has squeaked into the lead with 8795 pages read. Team Goblin Shark (that's me!) is just behind at 8768 pages. That's a mere 27 page difference with one week left to go. And it's not just between those two teams; Team Silky Shark is in striking distance with 7990 pages read, Team Dusky Shark is not too far back at 6587 pages read, and Team Prickly Shark at 3937 pages read could make a run for it.
A quick turn at the calculator tells me that we're at 36,077 pages read so far. If we consider the average book to be 250 pages long, that's over 144 book read so far. That's awesome! Kudos to you all for doing such a terrific job. And while we're handing out kudos, here's some for our Runge community for supporting this Throwdown and to the larger community of readers for taking the time to encourage our contestants. Each team received an encouraging postcard this week from Oregon (you can see the postcards on the library's FaceBook page) and readers from all over the world are talking about the contest and eager to see how it all turns out.
Let's really pour it on this last week, teams, and take those numbers over the top!
