FREER – The Beeville volleyball team dropped both ends of its triangular match in Freer last week.

The Trojans fell in five sets to Alice and dropped a four-set decision to host Freer.

In the first match, Alice won the first set 25-13, but Beeville rebounded for back-to-back victories, winning 25-20 in both the second and third sets.

Alice forced a tie-breaking fifth set with a 25-12 win in the fourth, then beat the Trojans 15-13 in the fifth.

For the Trojans, Ciara Garcia recorded a team-best 18 kills and had four digs.

Mackenzie Harvey had two kills, four digs and an ace, while Margaret Downing had two kills, five blocks and three digs.

Alyssa Silva had eight assists.

In the second match of the triangular, Freer downed the Trojans by winning the final three sets.

Beeville won the opening set 29-27, but the Buckaroos won the next three sets 25-21, 25-20, 25-18, respectively.

Garcia again paced the Trojan offense with four kills.

Downing had three kills and a block, Harvey had four digs and an ace, and Rebecca De Los Santos had two digs and an ace.

Despite the winless start to the season, first-year coach Rebecca Riojas-Fryer remains optimistic.

“We are getting better every game,” she said. “We just need to finish games.

“These girls are improving so much even though we aren’t winning.”
