Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation for the support and overwhelming kindness family, friends and supporters provided in helping me attain my goal of competing in the Junior Olympics.

I am so blessed to have such amazing people in my life, providing moral support and instilling in me the values of perseverance, diligence, and the courage to succeed.

Because of your efforts and generosity, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to compete with other athletes my age in the 2014 Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa and I’m happy to report that my hard work and determination provided for a very rewarding experience.

On Tuesday, July 26, I ran the 200-meter dash, placing 27th out of 90 females in the 13-year-old category. I was so excited because I surpassed my personal best, running a time of 26.0 seconds, only .07 short of advancing to the semifinals.

On Thursday, July 28, I competed in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet, 6 1/4 inches, placing 13th out of 69 females and barely missing a medal by a mere 1 foot, 1 1/4 inches.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience and the opportunity to compete with equally talented young ladies at the Junior Olympics. I look forward to next year’s competition in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Again, thank you for the continued support in my athletic endeavors and for making my dream possible.

Sincerely,

Amaya Monet Brown
