We volunteer to assist those citizens who are honestly in need of our department to extinguish a fire or standby in case of a vehicle accident. We do not mind putting our lives on the line for those who really try to be good citizens of our community. What bothers a lot of us is the mindless people who put our lives on the line with careless actions with little or no concern for their neighbors or the well-being of our community.
Each fire department in Bee County depends upon our citizens to be vigilant and aware of what is happening in and around their neighborhood. Our response time requires a quick notification of any suspicious smoke, sight or smell of. The sooner we know of the situation the sooner we can arrive on scene and take the action required to possibly save a home and/or life.
On Aug. 20, 21 and 27, the Skidmore Fire Department has been called out to the same area to extinguish three suspicious fires. If anyone in Bee County sees what appears to be suspicious activity, please notify the police department or sheriff’s office. They can dispatch the needed equipment and manpower as needed.
The well-being of your family and/or your home depends upon how quick the fire departments know of your need. You can help us keep our communities safer by being vigilant and aware of what is happening in and around your neighborhood. Do not be afraid to call 911. It could be a matter of life or death or loss of property.
