Alan-Michael Martinez of Woodsboro, a computer science technology student, won a gold medal in Quiz Bowl.

Texas State Technical College Waco students dominated the state SkillsUSA competitions held in San Antonio recently, winning 61 medals.

Of the 85 TSTC students who competed, 24 will advance to the national competition in Kansas City, Mo. the last week in June to test their technical and leadership knowledge and skills.

SkillsUSA, a nationwide partnership of students, teachers and industry, helps prepare America’s future skilled workforce by providing competitions and training for students in technical fields at the high school and college levels. The organization offers more than 91 national competitions in leadership and hands-on categories, many of which correlate with TSTC programs.

The technical fields which students will advance to have become increasingly competitive; they include 3-D visualization and animation, power equipment technology, carpentry, motorcycle repair and mechatronics.
