In the first game the Lady Eagles wasted no time in getting on the board. Kaitlin McCool led off the inning with a single, stole second and reached third on an errant throw.
Chelsea Bluemel came up with one out and hit an RBI single. Bluemel reached second on a single by Megan Carter. Bluemel was then called out at third on a controversial call of interference on the batter.
Carter reached second on the double steal and later scored on an errant throw back to the pitcher by the opposing catcher. Melissa Cisneros then ended the inning with a fly ball to left field. The visiting Lady Tigers would tie the score up at second in the third inning with two singles and a couple of Lady Eagle errors that would allow the two runs to cross the plate.
The Lady Eagles would then come up with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Carter led off the inning with a double. Cisneros would then put down a sacrifice bunt to move Carter to third. Samantha Lopez would then hit an RBI single that would score Carter.
Mallory Jessop then knocked Lopez in with an RBI double. Jessop would later score on a base hit by Meagan Niemann.Niemann would steal second and score the final run of the game on an RBI single by Cassie Blaschke.
Carter pitched a complete game with five strikeouts for the 6-2 win.
In the second game of the series, the Lady Eagles wasted no time again getting on the scoreboard.
Bluemel would score the first run on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Melissa Cisneros.
Jessop would then follow the next inning with a single to left field, stealing second, and RBI single by Blaschke. Blaschke would reach second when the left fielder misplayed the hit.
McCool would again come through with an RBI double that was stretched into a triple when the left fielder misplayed the hit, making the score 3-0.
In the third inning, Carter led off with double moved over to third on a fielder’s choice. Jessop would hit an RBI single just over the shortstop’s outstretched glove.
Meagan Niemann would then hit a single to left field. Jessop and Niemann would both score on a double off the left center field fence by Cassie Blaschke, making the score 6-0.
Brackettville would score their two runs of the game on a misplayed fly ball and two singles. In the fifth inning Samantha Lopez would lead off with a double over the center fielder’s head, Jessop would follow with a double of her own down the left field line, steal third and would score when the first baseman had an errant throw to third base on a pick-off play.
The score was 9-2 going into the top of the sixth inning, Megan Carter (aka Hammer) made a statement to the Lady Tigers on the first pitch, hitting the ball over the left center field fence.
Final score was 14-2 in six innings. The Lady Eagles will be playing as the County Press is being printed.
The Lady Eagles faced Kingsville Academy on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Gregory-Portland.
