Douglas Franklin Sr., 85, of Refugio died Sunday, May 31, 2009.
He was a Veteran of WWII, serving in the Army, a Deacon and faithful and loyal member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church until his health failed. He was committed to serving others, always visiting the sick and shut-ins.
He was born Jan. 9, 1924 in Goliad to Douggie and Liza King Franklin.
Mr. Franklin is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ella Franklin.
Survivors include ten daughters and their spouses, Mary and Eddie Edwards, Marilyn Robinson, Eliza Franklin, Betty Franklin and Cheryl Franklin, all of Victoria, Lottie Davis, Patty and Eugene Lewis, Joyce Franklin and Kathy Franklin, all of Refugio, Rose and Philip Lewis of Edinburg; three sons and spouses, Ralph and Gloria Lewis of Kingswood, Larry and Shirley Lewis of Arlington, and Doug and Tracy Franklin Jr. of Refugio; two sisters, Louise Perryman of Corpus Christi and Thelma Kirkland of Bay City; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Perkins of Refugio and Evelyn Youngblood of Victoria; one brother-in-law, Vernon Elliot of Refugio; 39 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was held Wednesday, June 3, at Mt. Pilgrim Church from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 4 at First Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Community Cemetery, Refugio.
