What will solve our economic problems? What will pull the U.S. out of this recession? Will more bailouts do it? Will all the answers to our troubles simply be solved with money? Is the answer more than money?

Our financial woes are symptom of a greater problem that faces all nations, and that is a spiritual void in our ethics. Basically all business, all investments and all contracts must be just, fair and honest. Even a gangster in organized crime wants an honest accountant. The gambler wants an honest bookkeeper. People want an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.

These moral guides are deeply rooted in a person’s spiritual life. A person’s spiritual life is governed by one’s relationship with God. God lovingly holds us accountable to a just life through prayer, reading and applying the word of God to one’s daily living. It is a spiritual battlefield within. To overcome temptations and to conquer greed, lust, envy and self-centeredness, we all need a spiritual stimulus.

We need to come back to the God of righteousness. The God, who calls us out of sins and to a better life, should be given our hearts in service and love. We need another Spiritual Awakening. I call all who read this article to be more intentional in your faithfulness to God.

Remember the words of the Micah 6:8, “He [God] has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (NIV) Walk with God daily. Seek his will and do want is right. This is the stimulus we all need.
