Merle Pellusch, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008. He served in the U.S. Navy, worked as a rough neck in the oil fields of West Texas.

He ended his career 50 years later as a drilling superintendent with Chevron. Pellusch also spent 17 years in the oil fields of the Middle East. He enjoyed fishing and life outdoors.

He was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Parsons, Kan.

Merle was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Pellusch.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Elisabeth Pellusch of Rockport; eight children, Cynthia and Janna Pellusch of Deer Park; Jack Collins of Okinawa, Japan; Joe Collins of Bayside; James Collins of Rockport; Tom Collins of Rockport; Johann Collins of Corpus Christi and Ann Cranford of Arlington; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, from 6-7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. following the visitation.

Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockport.

Burial was at 2 p.m. in Old St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bayside.
