The Woodsboro Lady Eagles started district play with four tough matches beginning with Ganado on Tuesday, Sept. 16

The four-game match ended with one win and three losses. The winning score was 25-23, and the losing scores were 25-18, 25-9, 25-23.

Wednesday, the ladies traveled to Runge to make up the previous week’s game and lost 25-20, 25-13, and 27-25.

Friday the ladies went to Yourktown and were out-scored 25-21, 25-9, 25-16.

Tuesday, Sept.23, the ladies played Louise, last years district winners, and lost in close games of 25-19, 25-14, 25-20 winning one, 25-18.

“Although the district start has gotten off to a slow start, the ladies and fans have not given up and are encouraged by improvements they have seen,” said Coach Starla Jones. “Each of the ladies have made contributions to the team. They have gotten discouraged in the past when things were not going well and I am glad to see them begin to pull together and stay positive even when errors are made.”

The coach said the ladies have a paper in their lockers which says, “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; un-rewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”
