The Tomas Gonzales Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America is inviting golfers to sign up for the organization’s second annual golf tournament fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 11.

The event is scheduled to begin with tee time at 8:30 a.m. at the John C. Beasley Municipal Golf Course at Veterans Memorial Park.

The organization is making the event worthwhile by offering prices for best ball, best position, blind draw for A, B and C players and cash prizes for the winners.

Also, a car donated by Aztec Chevrolet will be awarded to the first person who can make a hole in one on hole No. 5 during the tournament.

A $75 entry fee will pay for the use of the greens and for a golf cart. That also will include breakfast, lunch and refreshments throughout the day.

The first place winner will take home $1,000 in cash and the second place winner will receive $700. A $400 prize will be awarded to the third place finisher and the fourth place winner will get a $200 prize.

Prizes also will be awarded to the closest to the pins on holes 5, 8, 14 and 17. In addition, the golfer who has the longest drive during the tournament and gets his ball closest to the line on hole No. 9 will win prizes.

Anyone interested in entering the event is asked to call Sam Workman at 362-7618 or Joe Rodriguez at 358-3858 by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, with his or her handicap.

Money raised by this annual event helps provide college scholarships for deserving students.
