Last year’s event drew approximately 400 participants and raised approximately $15,000 for Hospice of South Texas. Hospice of South Texas is the only nonprofit hospice in Victoria and 11 surrounding counties, and monies raised will go toward helping Hospice of South Texas provide care to those with a life-limiting illness and support to their loved ones. Detar Hospital is the title sponsor for the event and The Victoria Advocate will be the presenting sponsor.
The certified 5K (3.1 miles) course will start from the special events area in Riverside Park and wind through the park along the Guadalupe River and past the Texas Zoo. There will also be a ½-mile kids fun run that will take place after the 5K event. Awards will be given to the top three overall males and females in the event, as well as the top overall masters (age 40+) male and female winners. Top awards have been graciously donated by area businesses.
Two pairs of Oakley Thumps donated by The Victoria Eye Center; two $100 gift cards donated by Academy Sports & Outdoors; and two Ipod shuffles, donated by Best Buy, will be given to the top runners. Medals will be given to the top three in each age group and finisher ribbons will be given to each child that finishes the kid’s fun run.
Music will be provided by Jay and Amber Young, and food and drinks will be available before and after the event. Registration for the event is now open. Participants can register by picking up a registration form at Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust, or by going to www.active.com and registering online.
Registration fee is $20 for 5K Run/Walk and $10 for Kids Run. For more information call (361)572-4300 or visit the website at www.hospiceofsouthtexas.org
