Police officers said a 17-year-old Beeville man was walking around with minor scratches Sunday evening after totaling his pickup truck and snapping a utility pole in the 400 block of North Washington Street.

According to a report filed by Patrolman Patrick Mitchell, Anthony L. Arredondo was seen racing with another vehicle as he entered the 400 block of North Washington headed south.

The driver apparently lost control, skidded more than 300 feet and crashed into a $2,500 utility pole before coming to a stop at the front door of Artie’s Cafe, 417 N. Washington St.

The utility pole snapped and part of it ended up through the front window of the cafe.

According to Mitchell’s report, damage to the restaurant was about $600.

Although Arredondo was not seriously injured, he was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville by Angel Care Ambulance Service to be checked out by emergency room personnel.

Mitchell reported that the driver will receive citations for driving without a license and failure to control speed.
