Fernando H. Gonzales, age 52, Bishop and Founder of Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith Inc., Pastor of City of Truth Apostolic Church in Skidmore Texas, died at University Hospital in San Antonio Texas on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 7:40 a.m.

He was born November 15, 1956 in Beeville Texas to the late Guadalupe H. and Guadalupe S. Gonzales. He attended grade school and graduated from Skidmore-Tynan High School in 1976.

Bishop Gonzales received his ministerial training at Apostolic Faith Institute in San Antonio Texas. On August 6, 1983, he was united in marriage to Norma Alicia Lopez in Crystal City, Texas. They celebrated 25 years of marriage in 2008.

Bishop Gonzales began preaching at the age of 14 and pastoring at the age of 17. In 1969, the late Maria Garcia Rodriguez (Bishop Gonzales’ grandmother) opened her home and Mission ‘Pentecostes’ began. In 1971, Pastor Elias and Ignacia Villarreal took over the mission and called it “Monte de Santidad Pentecostal Church”. In 1974, Gonzales, a native of Bee County, became the pastor and the church became known as “Iglesia Apostolica”. Iglesia Apostolica is the oldest Spanish Apostolic church in Bee County and Bishop Gonzales is one of the longest serving Spanish Pentecostal ministers in Bee County.

Bishop Gonzales marked his 35 years of pastoring the congregation of Iglesia Apostolica in Skidmore Texas, on April 24, 2009. During his 35 years of service, he has preached, evangelized and been a missionary in all parts of the world including Africa, South and Central America, and London, England. He has countless teachings and preachings on cassette tapes, and has written 25 booklets on Apostolic Doctrine. In 1995, he became the president and founder of Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic Faith Inc. The organization currently has 130 ministers, 70 churches, and many affiliated members in and out of the country.

Bishop Gonzales is survived by his wife, Norma; his children, Israel, Norma Raquel, Joel and Liliana; his brother and his wife, Juventino and Graciela Gomez of Dallas, TX; his brother, Luciano Gomez of Matamoros Mexico; his sister and her husband, Angelita and Eliseo Salazar of Katy, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eladio Gomez.

Funeral services for Fernando H. Gonzales were held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, and 10 a.m. on Monday, July 27, at Word of Life Church, 4900 N. St. Mary’s in Beeville, TX. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore, TX.

Pallbearers were Arnold Gonzales, Cornelio Lopez, Alfred Luna, Israel Mendez, Carlos R. Lopez Jr., Joshua Cantu, Cesar R. Lopez and Joel Lopez, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Joseph S. Fiscal and Jeremiah Fuentes.

Relatives and friends were welcome at Word of Life Church on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. until the hour of service. Pastors, ministers and family officiated, spoke and ministered in music during the services.

Alas, the world has lost a great treasure...this was truly a man of God. May the Lord raise up more great pastors, as this man...The Lord be with his family as they journey onward..Amen.
