For 18 years, residents have been leaving the cooking to the Refugio Volunteer Fire Department on Labor Day. This year is no exception.

The RVFD will host its 18th annual chicken-fried steak dinner on Monday Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Cafeteria.

The cost is still $6 a plate, either dine-in or carry-out, with dessert and tea provided.

“Every year the dinner gets better,” said Marvin Null, assistant fire chief. “We’ve been getting more people every year.”

Tickets can be purchased from any Refugio firefighter beforehand or at the door the day of the dinner.

For further information, contact any firefighter or call Asst. Chief Marvin Null at phone 361-220-0892.
