This may be placed in the "That’s no business of your’s, Kennedy, so shut up!” But such foolish admonitions have never stopped me before, so here goes an outsider’s
wet blanket remembrance of the 2008 50th Reunion of those graduates of Refugio High School.
I guess a great time was had by all, including spouses and probably guests from other than 1958 grads. I hope so. I like happy occasions.
But, the reunion could have meant more, to celebrators and to the Town of Refugio, if those visitors to our county for the occasion would have availed themselves of accommodations in Refugio.
I speak specifically of the Inns of Texas, Budget Motel, Ranch Motel and Best Western motels. Why didn’t reunion attendees stay at one of these?
Also, why were not meals scheduled at Refugio restaurants?
And, how about the meetings, if any were held; and the dance, if such was enjoyed. Couldn’t the reunionists have used Refugio’s Community Center; rented Padilla Hall; or asked the City of Refugio for use of the facility that formally has been used for dances?
Oh, before I forget, Refugio also has a nice Bed & Breakfast that’s available. My main point is: All grads profess their love for Refugio. Those at the 2008 RHS Reunion should have shown same with leaving a few dollars (probably quite a few) with Refugio’s businesses. Never mind that Corpus Christi has “sparkling” different facilities.
Pay homage to your heritage, old grads!
