ANWR extends application period for rifle hunts

The Aransas National Wildlife Refuge is extending the application period for a rifle hunt of white-tailed deer and feral (wild) hogs.

The hunt will be conducted on alternate weekends in November and December. Applications are still available for Dec. 6, 7 and 20, 21. For each hunt weekend, 100 permits will be issued on the 19,496 acre rifle area.

Each permit is valid only for the weekend specified. Permits for each weekend will be issued on a first come, first serve basis. The fee is $125 per hunter, for both days.

Up to seven names may be submitted on the permit application. Permit applications are available at the Refuge Visitor Center.

By mail, completed applications and fees must be received at the Refuge Center or post marked no later than Nov. 15. In person applications will be accepted at the Visitor Center no later than 3 p.m. Dec. 4 for the Dec. 6-7 hunt and 3 p.m. Dec. 18, for the Dec. 20-21 hunt.
