For 18 years local residents have been leaving the cooking to the Refugio Volunteer Fire Department on Labor Day. This year is no exception.

The RVFD will host its 18th annual chicken-fried steak dinner on Monday Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Refuge Cafeteria.

The cost is still $6 a plate, either dine-in or carry-out, with dessert and tea provided.

“Every year the dinner gets better,” said Marvin Null, assistant fire chief. “We’ve been getting more people every year.”

The Church cafeteria, is on the corner of of Power and Federation streets behind the church at 1008 S. Alamo Street.

Tickets can be purchased from any Refugio firefighter beforehand or at the door the day of the dinner.

“Proceeds from the dinner will be used to upgrade needed equipment for the department so we can continue to improve our ability to serve our community better,” Null said.

For further information, contact any firefighter or call Asst. Chief Marvin Null at phone #361-220-0892.
