The ball was slippery and the field was wet at Eagle Stadium Friday night but the Woodsboro Eagles controlled the ball to shut out the Kenedy Lions 34-0.

The Lions botched a punt at the beginning of the game and the Eagles recovered in the end zone for their first touchdown of the night.

Victor Flores (72) made the recovery. Ruben Garcia (30) made the two-point conversion and Eagles led 8-0 with 9:36 left in he first quarter.

Ronnie Martinez broke loose for a 44-yard touchdown run and the Eagles led 14-0.

Just before the half, with 45 seconds left on he clock, Bryan Steward scored on a pass interception. The extra point failed but the Eagles led 20-0 going into halftime.

In the second half of play, Quarterback Mario Trevino made a 20-yard touchdown run, bringing the score to 26-0. The two-point conversion failed.

Ruben Garcia (30) sprinted 64 yards for the final Eagle touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter. Ray Lopez (40) slipped across for the two-point conversion, for the 34-0 shutout game.

“We tired them out on both offense and defense and eventually broke their spirit for the win,” said Coach Chris Mann, assistant offensive coordinator.

Trevino was the leading rusher with 107 yards on 11 carries.

The Eagles fumbled twice and lost the ball once but Kenedy was unable to capitalize on the recovery. Woodsboro recovered both Kenedy fumbles.

Ball carriers Garcia picked up 92 yards on seven carries; Martinez, 79 on 12; Ray Lopez, 28 on 12. Jose Esparza 10 on two; Marcos Jaramillo, 10 on 1; Jared Martinez, 3 on two.

The Eagles offense tallied 325 yards rushing in the game; and the defense recovered both of the Lions fumbles.
