Bedtime Story Night began with the pre-k students and their parents the first week and continued each week with the kindergarten and first grade students and their parents.
“The event was a huge success,” said Anna Garcia, school librarian.
Students who participated earned an invitation to the six week’s Accelerated Reading celebration.
Held in the RES library, the event’s purpose was to acquaint the parents, of these early readers, with the importance of reading at home and identify the many programs the classroom teachers and the library have to offer.
While the parents attended a short informative meeting, Refugio High School Book Club members entertained the students in the cafeteria.
Students came dressed in their pajamas ready to cuddle with their parents, read a bedtime story, and take A/R tests.
Throughout the year other events are planned to promote the importance of early literacy in the home, the librarian said.
