The 2009 Joe Barber Memorial Relay for Life Dinner and 25th Anniversary celebration of the Relay for Life will be held Nov. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in the Expo building at the fairgrounds.

The dinner will honor all county cancer survivors that register for the event, the individual selected as a 2009 Refugio County Survivor Honoree, and the families of the individuals selected as a 2009 Refugio County Memorial Honorees.

“As a Refugio County Cancer Survivor–We honor and support you! So let’s party!” said Jennifer Lara, organizer.

Each survivor that registers may bring one guest at no cost. The four individuals named as survivor honorees may bring five guests at no cost. The family of each of the four individuals named as a memorial honorees may also bring five guests to represent their loved one who has lost their battle to cancer. All additional guests will be charged $7.

A reply is necessary by Nov. 4, for all guests who plan to attend the dinner. The celebration will include dinner, door prizes, entertainment, and a survivor and memorial honoree ceremony.

At the end of the dinner program, all survivors are welcome to leave the Expo Building as a group and participate in the opening lap around the relay track which will officially kick off this year’s Relay for Life event.

Transportation around the relay track for the opening lap will be provided for those in need of assistance.

If you have not received an invitation by mail to the survivor dinner and would like to attend, please contact Jennifer Perez-Lara at 526-2923 or 648-4124.

“Relay for life is a wonderful event that not only pays honor to those who continue to battle cancer or who have courageously lost their battle but also raises money for continued cancer research,” Lara said. “Please join us and be a port of this joyous 25th Anniversary celebration!”
