The Daughters of the Republic of Texas will conduct its district VII dinner with a tour of the Alamo and a workshop on Nov. 6 and 7 in the historic Menger Hotel next to the Alamo in San Antonio.

A social hour will be held beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

Registration for the workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, also in the Menger Hotel until 3:15 p.m.

The Daughters from the Clara Driscoll Chapter plan to attend. The Clara Driscoll Chapter held its first meeting of the season Saturday, Oct. 10 at Trinity Towers in Corpus Christi.

Kathy Boyd Weimer of Corpus Christi talked about three outstanding Texas women of the past.

Dilue Rose Harris; Adina Emilia De Zavala; Mary Ann “Molly” Goodnight were the topics of the keynote speaker’s address.

Harris, a journalist and important Texas historian, wrote journals about the War for Texas Independence. Her journals are important to educators and historians who wish to read more information about he War for Texas Independence.

She and her husband, Ira Harris, lived in Columbus. A marker is placed at the Harris home and it is now a Museum that was established in her memory.

De Zavala was a well known resident and school teacher in San Antonio. She is known for her efforts to preserve the long barracks surrounding the Alamo as well as preserving important Texas historical homes and places.

Goodnight was the wife of a Texas Panhandle rancher, Charles Goodnight. She helped her husband establish their huge JA Ranch. She is remembered for her efforts to protect baby buffalo as well as her work with crossbreeding range cattle with buffalo to produce “cattalo.”

Following Weimer’s presentation, the chapter year books were distributed to members. The year book sets forth the dates for honor days and meeting days for DRT events for the next two years.

Refreshments of fruit and sweet rolls with coffee were served to the daughters at mid point during the meeting. Later a drawing was conducted.

Many relics with Texas significance were won by some of the lucky members during the drawing.
