Esma Robert Hawkins, Jr., 84, of San Antonio and formerly of Corpus Christi, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009. He was employed with Coastal State Petroleum Company as Lead Operator for 21 years and retired in 1984.

He graduated from Solomon M. Coles High School in 1941, and attended college at Prairie View A & M University. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Force.

Hawkins was born Jan. 29, 1925, in Corpus Christi to Esma and Garnetta Hawkins Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Verter Lewis Hawkins; one daughter, Carol Garcia and husband Rene of San Antonio; one son, Don Hawkins of Corpus Christi; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at Moore Funeral Home. Burial will be in Community Cemetery.
