The Ray Lady Texans were in Beeville on Tuesday night and the Corpus Christi sub-varsity basketball teams swept their host Lady Trojans in two games.

The freshman contest went to the visitors, 51-21.

The Beeville girls were led by Brianna Jackson with six points and Celeste Contreras with five markers. Post Lindsey Roberson finished the night with four tallies.

The junior varsity contest was much closer but the Lady Texans pulled away late for the 45-38 victory.

The JV contest also went to the Lady Texans but it was a much closer tilt.

Ray led by one, 9-8, after one period and it was still close at 19-17 at the half. The visitors managed to stretch their lead to three points by the end of the third quarter and held a 28-25 advantage.

The Lady Texans hit for 17 over the final quarter and the Lady Trojans tried to rally but fell a little short with 13 points. That made the final a seven-point win for the visitors.

“We played tough and were able to stay within close range throughout the game. Our inability to finish was detrimental to our offensive scheme,” said JV coach Ophelia De Los Santos.

“Finishing is an important component that we need to correct before our next game.”

Courtney Perez led the Lady Trojans with 18 points while J.J. Hernandez hit for nine. Chrissi Casanova finished with four and Lindsey Yanez, Taylor Lawson and Noemi Lopez all had two points.

“Perez led us offensively along with Hernandez. Yanez continues to play outstanding defense and has come to play a key role on our team,” said De Los Santos.

The Lady Trojans played the Gregory-Portland girls on Friday night and will have a bye on Tuesday night before hosting Miller next Friday.
