“We lost to them by 26 last time and only lost by nine this time. We struggled offensively during the first half but our defense kept us in the game,” said head coach Darcy Siddon.
The teams struggled through a slow-paced first period as the two teams, combined, managed just 11 points. The Lady Eagles hit for just four of the 11 and fell behind early. It was an uphill battle the rest of the night.
The Lady Marlins led by 10, 21-11, at the half and made that a 13-point cushion after capturing the third period 9-6. It was 30-17 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Eagles battled and got back four of the 13 points but it wasn’t enough as the home team captured a 38-29 victory.
“We came out playing ball in the second half and just ran out of time. The girls played a great game, they could of given up since they had lost to this team before but they stepped up and gave Port Aransas a great game,” Siddon said.
Lindsay Parker led the Lady Eagles with 12 points. Chloe Garza hit two three-pointers for six points. Marissa Carrizales followed with five points and Shanon Mendez finished with four markers. Hailee Schauer closed the scoring with two.
The Lady Eagles will host Woodsboro on Tuesday night and then travel to Yorktown next Friday night.
