Incumbent Refugio County Judge Rene Mascorro won the Democratic Primary election with 837 votes, defeating challenger Christopher D. Bedynek who garnered 292.

In the four-way open race for Justice of the Peace, No. 2, Emi Pullin Riemenschneider and Veronica Rocha will face off in April in a runoff election.

Riemenschneider was the front-runner with 321 votes to Rocha’s 257.

In the only other contested local race, also without an incumbent, Ida M. Ramirez won over Patty Baugh 779 to 370.

Other non-contested winners are Ruby Vela Garcia, district clerk; Stanley D. Tuttle, commissioner, Precinct 2; Rod Bernal, commissioner, Precinct 4; Lorraine M. Lopez, justice of the peace, No. 1; and Johnny Karstedt, Democratic Party Chair.

In the only two local races in the Republican Primary, Louise Null Aduddell was unopposed for country treasurer as was Walter Coumbe, for Republican Party Chair.

Turnout was light for the primaries. Only 29.34 percent of the 5,307 registered voters in the county cast a ballot.
