Lamprecht advances to NCAA tournament with UTPB Falcons

The University of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons won the 2008 Heartland Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday in Odessa. The win clinched the Falcons a conference automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division II tournament in Emporia, Kan., on Nov. 20-22.

This marks the Falcons’ first trip to the tournament in their short history as a NCAA Division II member.

Mica Lamprecht, a sophomore this season at UTPB, and a 2007 graduate of Woodsboro High School, will receive her second, back-to-back, conference ring following her two years of play for the UTPB Falcons.

The Falcons entered the Heartland Conference tournament as the number one seed and the co-champion of the Heartland Conference. UTPB shared the regular season championship with St. Edward’s and Incarnate Word.

The Falcons, as the number one seed, played DBU, the fourth seed, in the first round of the tournament and defeated the Lady Patriots 3-2 to advance to the championship match against the Cardinals from UIW.

UTPB came to the tournament steadfast to win the match from set one. The Falcons raced their way to a 3-0 victory to secure the conference tournament championship, and receive the bid to the NCAA tournament.

This will be the first time in school history, Emporia State University will play host to the tournament.
