Macario “Mike” Serrata, 69, of Refugio, died Friday, March 26, 2010. He was employed by Production Operators in Houston as an oil and gas compressor mechanic for 27 years.

He attended school in Refugio and Palacios High.

He was born June 6, 1940 in Refugio, to Eva Vasquez Serrata and Jose Angel Serrata.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Albert; and one half-brother, Joe Serrata, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Rodriguez Serrata; six sisters, Joyce Loya and husband Arturo, Kathy Garza and husband Jim, Tillie Serrata, all of Refugio, Lucinda Johnson of Victoria, Helen Quinones of Houston, Frances Lopez of Dallas; and one brother, Richard V. Serrata of Refugio.

A rosary was recited on Sunday, March 28 at 7 p.m at Moore Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, March 29 at 2 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris Garza, David Loya, Rick Serrata, Alfred Lopez, Mark Quinones and Phillip Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were Carmel Rodriguez, Pete Rodriguez, Tony Resendez, and Mario Ramirez.
