Two was the magic number Monday and Tuesday for the Lady Cats who played two games in two days and came away with two victories, The Lady Cats won the first game against the Taft Lady Greyhounds, 5-1; and the second, 7-5 against the Skidmore-Tynan Lady Cats,

Coach David Cruhm said the Lady Cats showed poise and character to come up with the two wins.

The first was a well-fought battle. The victory clinched a district championship for the Lady Cats.

Outstanding performances came were Chelsea Lara , 14-2, 2 for 2,RBI, run; Jami Wiginton, 1 for 3 run; Cecilia Bauer, RBI; Shelby Quintanilla, run; Shelby Bellows, run; and Cassandra Ramirez, run.

Chelsea Lara led the defensive stand with a great pitching performance (10K, ER, BB) and several fine plays.

Tuesday’s game was hosted by Skidmore Tynan. The game was a hard-fought battle by both squads and went into the seventh inning deadlocked at 4.

“The visiting Refugio team was not going to let Skidmore momentum get the best of them,” the coach said.

Refugio scored three unanswered runs in the top of the seventh with key hits by Shelby Bellows, 1 for 4; Kristen Wise, 3 for 4, 2 runs; Chelsea Lara, 3 for 4, 3 runs, RBI; and Haley Brynelson, 2 for 3, RBI.

Refugio’s three runs deflated the home teams hopes of the upset.
