Manuel Villarreal Sr., 88, died Saturday, April 24, 2010. He was a plant operator for United Gas for 42 years, before retiring in 1985. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was born May 26, 1921, in New Braunfels, to Catarino and Abelina Gonzales Villarreal.

Surviors include his daughter, Sandra Whitney and her husband Dave of Woodsboro; one son, J.R. Villarreal and his wife, Mickey; three sisters, Victoria Cantu of Taft, Nicolasa Vasquez of Pearland, and Mary Veselka of Woodsboro; two brothers, Jose Villarreal of Corpus Christi and Joe G. “Pepe” Villarreal of Lake Jackson; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were conducted Monday, April 26, from 6-9 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m.

Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Woodsboro.

Burial was in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his grandsons.
