The fun will continue through the weekend, featuring live music by such bands as The Majestics, Jody Farias y Increible, mariachi and ballet folklorico performances, arts and crafts booths and fun for the whole family. Saturday will also see the recognition of several prominent persons, including the mayor of Hidalgo, Nuevo Leon, E.G. Rubio, and his wife, Neurania, the fiesta sponsors, and others who have made vital contributions to the success of the organization.
The Goliad General Zaragoza Society hosts each year the Fiesta Zaragoza or Cinco de Mayo in honor of General Ignacio Zaragoza (1829-1862), Mexican national hero and preserver of independence for the Mexican people. This year, the society has received, through generous donations, a record-breaking amount, enabling them to offer 10 $1,000 scholarships for the youth of Goliad.
Society President Edward Garcia says he hopes efforts toward educating our youth continue, which will help obtain a better hold and lead them in the future.
