Vernon Grumbles, 89, of Pleasanton died Sunday, May 9, 2010, in Pleasanton. The Rev. Vernon Grumbles left a legacy of pioneering churches and mentoring countless upcoming ministers. Beginning his pastoral journey in 1955. Grumbles was pastor at six different churches preceding his retirement in 1990.

He is preceded in death by his parents Edward Davis and Ella Melissa (Larimor) Grumbles.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Grumbles of Pleasanton; five daughters and their husbands, Michael and Daryl Richey of Pleasanton, Patsy and Jack Carver of San Antonio, Anna Jo and Bobby Fortner of Lake Jackson, and Melissa and Tim Mund of Needville; two sons and their wives, Russell and Tonny Grumbles of Refugio, Johnnie and Maxine Grumbles of Victoria; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 West Oaklawn Road, Pleasanton from 2 to 8 p.m. The family received family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday May 11.

The funeral service was conducted at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 12.
